| NEW YORK (Oct. 20) - Harry Potter fans, the rumors are true: Albus Dumbledore, master wizard and Headmaster of Hogwarts, is gay. J.K. Rowling, author of the mega-selling fantasy series that ended last summer, outed the beloved character Friday night while appearing before a full house at Carnegie Hall.
After reading briefly from the final book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," she took questions from audience members.
She was asked by one young fan whether Dumbledore finds "true love."
"Dumbledore is gay," the author responded to gasps and applause.
She then explained that Dumbledore was smitten with rival Gellert Grindelwald, whom he defeated long ago in a battle between good and bad wizards. "Falling in love can blind us to an extent," Rowling said of Dumbledore's feelings, adding that Dumbledore was "horribly, terribly let down."
Dumbledore's love, she observed, was his "great tragedy."
"Oh, my god," Rowling concluded with a laugh, "the fan fiction."
Potter readers on fan sites and elsewhere on the Internet have speculated on the sexuality of Dumbledore, noting that he has no close relationship with women and a mysterious, troubled past. And explicit scenes with Dumbledore already have appeared in fan fiction.
Rowling told the audience that while working on the planned sixth Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince ," she spotted a reference in the script to a girl who once was of interest to Dumbledore. A note was duly passed to director David Yates, revealing the truth about her character.
Rowling, finishing a brief "Open Book Tour" of the United States, her first tour here since 2000, also said that she regarded her Potter books as a "prolonged argument for tolerance" and urged her fans to "question authority."
Not everyone likes her work, Rowling said, likely referring to Christian groups that have alleged the books promote witchcraft. Her news about Dumbledore, she said, will give them one more reason.

| | The Artist Way Conservatory announces open auditions for an educational workshop study of the characters of the hit broadway musical "RENT". Auditions will be held on Wednesday & Thursday, January 4th & 5th at 7pm. Callbacks will be held the following Monday night as needed, at 7pm. We Will be auditioning for people to fill the spaces of all the principle roles and also some ensemble roles for the charecter study. The workshop will take place over the month of January and February, with a possible workshop performance at the end of February. | | So Brina had her surgery today to remove the cancer from her tyroid. The surgery went well, and she is recovering as I speak. The doctors ended up haveing to remove the entire thyroid because of suspicious appearence, we wont know if the tumor is malignant for 10 days and if it has started to spread. Hopefully it hasnt. They byopsied some of her lyph nodes in her neck to to test them to see if the had the cancer spread to them as an extra precaution. I hope that everything comes back good, my sister has been through enough already in her life, she doesnt need anymore. Johnna and I went to the mall with my aunt for lunch and ended up getting Brina 2 big Carebear stuffed animals for $10 each. It was an awsome deal, and Brina loved them. After we went up to her room and saw her for about an hour my grandmother, me and Johnna all headed home to let Brina rest. Well be returning to the hospital in the moring sometime to see her again, and then hopefully she will be able to come home tommorow afternoon. Thanks again to everyone for keeping her in your prayers, it meant the world. Katrina, thank you and your family for the card you guys sent, it was very sweet, good luck on you car ride to minnesota....right?....minnesota. | So alittle update on life in general. Brina goes on monday for the surgery to remove the cancer hopefully from her thyroid and her neck. At that time they will be able to definitely tell if the cancer has spread. After that happens she will have to take a radiation pill and no one will be able to go near her for two weeks. I'm really nervous about the whole thing. She's been getting dizzy alot lately and there is alot of swelling in the lymph nodes of her neck. So there is a sign of spreading already. Hopefully it is just some reaction to something else but who knows. I havent really slept in two weeks, I just lay there at night trying to figure out why, but that never comes. My doctor put my on some sleeping aides...I just need to go get the perscription filled. Whos knows what is gonna happen. My grandparent are coming in on thursday or friday I think to be here for the surgery so it will be nice to spend time with them.
Rehersals for the christmas show that the company is doing are going very well. We go up next Friday so things are definitely gonna come together fast, but I think it will be a good show in all. I still have yet to pick out a solo...haha....but I think we are going towards "What A Wonderful World", but who knows. Altogether though the whole process has been fun and ive become friends with alot of really cool people.

| | So we got some pretty bad news yesterday. Brina had a lump develop on her throat about 5 weeks ago. They went and biopsid it and the results camw in yesterday. She has Thyroid cancer. It sucks, ive been so upset for the past day, the surgery she has to get has a good success rate, the problem is that the cancer is so close to her jugular vein that it could be fatal. Not to mention its cancer, and they do not know yet if it has spreed in her body or not. The older sister I never had. I dont know what I would be without you. Sure we drive each other crazy sometimes, but who else has sat at the hospital with me all through the night more times than you. Who else will bring tubs of ice creame and crappy movies over and just sit and cuddle while we watch them at night. No matter how you are feeling, I want you to know that I am so proud of you right now, because you have made your dreams a reality, you are doing what you wanna be doing, and living through things that many people never will experience. I know its hard in the city to be so far away from everything that is real to you, but as long as you stay true to yourself you will always be fine. Times are gonna be hard out there, but I know that you can do it, and I know that you can succeed, because that is the kinda person you are. You are already a star. You are my hero, wheather you know it or not, when things get hard for me I just remember you and how proud I wanna make you of me and it keeps me pushing. | | In the past few hours I havereally relized things that I didnt know i knew till now. I think ive finally relized how hard it was for them to deal with me when I was in my dark place. Its hard to relate. I expected so much of them, and so much support when in all retrospect they didnt know how to give me what I needed, no one does, I dont even think I would have known how to deal with me then. How can someone truely know how to handle depression? Especially when it has gotten so deep that its almost impossible to look at the person that it is effecting because they are just so sick. I have expected more than anyone could ever give, especially whe you are leaning on one person for full support, that one person to carry you long through the tides. Its a rediculous thing to ask of someone who is wading through there own tides. All that I should have asked for was a "lifejacket" to keep me above water, not for them to build a boat to sail on. | | So this is a short update on my week. Wednesday night I went to bston to craig's dorm. While there my car was broken into. The only thing that they took though was my car safety kit so whatever. The window was $100 to replace, then on the way to bring my car to get the window fixed, my breaks started to go...yey! So its been one of those weeks for my car. Last night i went to stephs dorm at RIC and stayed there. Steph, Scalette, podge, and I got dominoes at like 11 at night. They forgot half the order tho so they had to go back and get the rest (thats what you get in east providence) I have to say that it is weird to be writing an update in here but hey, i think im gonna start doing it more often. I think tonight I am gonna finish watching chramed season 2 because im gay like that (hahaha) maybe ill see what shirley is doing, i miss her alot! | | So I am currently working on not 1, not 2, but three shows. It is lots of fun though. I have my first lead role also, actually I have my first 2 lead roles, lmao. So im psyched. The twon leads I have are with this kids camp that I am a councelor for. The reason I am doing the shows is because they didnt have many boys, and they wanted the leads to be strong. So im excited. I'll be playing Aladdin in the new Disney musical "Aladdin" very exciting. I'm also playing Albert Peterson in "Bye, bye Birdie". Both shows are the last weekend in July so it should be fun. Lots of lines tho! The other show is Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" which has been mad fun also. Even with just being in the ensemble. I think that sometimes being in the ensemble is the funnest, but hey. So yea and that show is two weekends in mid august, once again you should all go! It should be tons of fun. | | So Shayna leaves on wednesday, I am gonna miss her so much. Moving her i will be a fun experience tho, and we are tentatively gonna see Jude's concert at cbgb so itl be good. Dee leaves in 8 days and it appears as tho she just wants to shut us out for the rest of her time here. I guess that we need to come to face the fact that we are probaly never gonna seeher again, but it would be nice if she wasnt avoiding us and being bitchy....whatever tho. | | Last night went to the drive in movies.....twas fun, fitting 4 people into a geo to watch the movie because we were too stupid to bring chairs and such. It was like playing a bad game of tetris.
